A Living Will is a document that allows you to designate a person (an "Agent") who will have the authority to make health care decisions on your behalf if you are unconscious, mentally incompetent, or otherwise unable to make such decisions. You can also express your specific wishes regarding whether you wish to receive "life-sustaining procedures" if you become permanently comatose or terminally ill.
While a Living Will is a very useful device, if legal authority to act on your behalf is given to a person who, for whatever reason, may no longer act in your best interest, it could be disastrous! It may become necessary to revoke the power you previously granted.
If you make a Living Will in favor of a person there will always be a risk that the person may-
act inappropriately as an agent
…. Should your agent be negligenty carrying out their duties as an agent, it may become necessary to revoke their powers!
become incapaciated or unwilling to act as your agent
…. Should your agent somehow be unable or unwilling to carry out their duties it may become necesssary to revoke their powers!
ceases to be trustworthy as an agent
…. Your agent ceases to be someone that you can trust to make these important health care decisions for you.
may not share the same vaules as you
…. Your agent may not actually share the same values as you and therefore be unable to comply with your instructions
much more…..
